Test Call Generation is the process whereby subscriber activity is simulated by generating call events on mobile or fixed-line networks. This independent testing of networks is carried out using a Test Call Generator (TCG) to identify potential sources of revenue loss and to verify and validate the integrity of the revenue assurance function itself. A TCG may also be utilised to satisfy regulatory compliance requirements.
There are two problem areas that are best addressed using a Test-Call Generator (TCG):
The simplest means of checking for both these issues is to generate test calls. The only realistic method of generating a sufficiently large number sample of test calls is to use a TCG system that can generate calls of varying length, at various times through the day and to a known set of numbers.
The TCG combines both hardware and software to generate planned, real usage on the target network, whether fixed line, 2G, 3G, or GPRS. The TCG then compares the output from the network elements to confirm that records for all the different types of usage were created.
In addition to demonstrating that the records are created records, they demonstrate that the usage recorded by the network accurately reflects the customers' usage of the service and that the timing of the events are accurate.
A TCG system can also be used as part of the compliance strategy of a CSP. By selecting a suitable sample, it provides much of the evidence to the Regulatory Authorities that the CSP is compliant with its obligations on accurately billing the customer.
