Dear Reader,

In spite of an intense GSMA campaign urging mobile operators around the world to implement NRTRDE by the 1st October 2008, only some ten percent claim to be NRTRDE ready today.

The fact is that most operators do not see a compelling reason to allocate resources to satisfy another industry “technical” requirement. In the absence of any commercial upside, why throw good money after bad trying to comply with these new fraud standards? The perceived absence of a business case for NRTRDE has operators scouting for the cheapest possible solution on the market just for the sake of compliance.

But just how wrong is this thinking? Perhaps operators are failing to recognise the opportunity to generate business value from NRTRDE. With NRTRDE, we are moving closer to a model where service authorisation, rating, charging and balance and account management are near-immediate. An example is using NRTRDE for setting credit limits on roaming users so that irregular usage is temporarily blocked, or for monitoring the results of roaming traffic steering.

NRTRDE is more than just fraud detection and prevention. It’s about taking advantage of near-real-time information for data retention and analysis, credit management, revenue assurance and much more. NRTRDE becomes a huge source of market intelligence, and therefore a competitive differentiator. This is an opportunity operators are not exploiting today.

And to top the argument, neither the technology nor the processes are inherently complex, and they can deliver results that mater to your business. The GSMA requires NRTRDE to be simple to keep costs down and help facilitate wide-scale adoption. At Xintec we have developed software solutions that fulfil all such criteria, and are ideally suited to operators wanting to avoid an expensive NRTRDE implementation.
