Dear Reader,
No fraud system vendor worth its salt could legitimately claim its place in a globalised market without explicit reference to an all-important "product roadmap”.
With the advent of next-generation networks (NGN), and telecom fraud scenarios becoming increasingly technical and complex, the global fraud threat looms even larger over the industry.
3.5G, LTE, IPTV, gaming, M2M, mobile commerce, VoIP, content etc will increase not only the volume and value of handset-based transactions, but also their complexity.
We will witness traditional telecom fraudsters being joined by members of the finance, IT and IP “hacking” fraternities in a converging fraud ecosystem. Sophisticated fraudsters will focus on the value (content) of business transactions whereas conventional fraudsters will continue to exploit the plain vanilla fraud types related to voice fraud.
Either way, there is no escaping the darker forces of the orchestrated underworld of deception by intent, which costs the industry tens of billions every year, and continues to make headlines when big “fraud hits” are disclosed, occasionally sending share values tumbling.
With a view to bolstering awareness levels of new and emerging fraud threats, this week I will have the pleasure of addressing the Pacific Islands Telecom Association (PITA) in Sydney, Australia. As in every other corner of the world, the effects of fraud in the Pacific region can have debilitating consequences for some of the smaller island economies.
As a vendor, it’s our business to help telecom opertors protect their business so they can maximise profitability, irrespective of the adversity out there. Hence my reference to a carefully planned roadmap. As this presentation may be of interest to a wider audience, I thought you may like to download your own copy in the coming days.
